we are definitely going to need to invest in a better mattress…the best night’s sleep ever. It’s one of those moments where the last thing you want to do is get out of bed, because you are just so comfortable. Nonetheless, hunger beat out comfort, and we made our way downstairs to the hotel’s restaurant, Supper. We were seated at a window seat, overlooking the river. We ordered beignets to start…because, life rule, you always get beignets if they are offered. Nate got cornbread waffles over a sweet potato butter….savory, delicious, and southern. I was boring and got yogurt with granola and fruit.

After getting fueled up for the day, we made a quick stop at the gift shop for some post cards and begrudgingly checked out. We then made our way down to the river to hail a river taxi to take us downtown. For anyone traveling to San Antonio, the river taxi is a must! You can pay for a day pass and it’s just the best way to see the entire city. The Pearl District is the furthest north it goes, but it’s much better than having to pay to park downtown. It also really helps when it’s a gorgeous day, which luckily was the case for us. We took in all the sights and got off in the heart of the city to grab some lunch.

There is so much that is offered downtown, you can literally find anything that anyone could ever be craving. For us it was tacos….Viva Taco Land….because truth. Their margaritas were strong, their street tacos were on point, and they had a trio of salsas that neither of us could get enough of. We definitely fell in love with SA through their food. After lunch we popped in to a souvenir shop to grab some stickers for our cooler and decided to head back to the Pearl to head home.

We hailed our river taxi and spent the next hour just taking in the amazing architecture that SA had to offer. While some parts of the riverwalk are overwhelmingly commercial, other parts truly show the history of the city, just another reason to easily love this city. The old and the new just somehow blend seamlessly together.

Once we got back to the Pearl, we grabbed a coffee for the road and said goodbye to Old Emma. We probably won’t return to stay the night here again, unless we’ve won the lottery. But, it was a great single night experience, and if you can afford it….STAY HERE!!! It seriously does.not.disappoint.
