as one gets older, birthdays become less and less a day of importance. You settle into your daily work routine and, if you’re anything like me, want to be in your jammies by 9 pm. Gone are the days of bar hopping until 2 am. It’s also kind of hard when you work from home and don’t have any co-workers who can help you celebrate and make your day special. Luckily, I have an amazing husband who makes me feel extra special all by his self.
He definitely threw me for a loop this year by planning a surprise dinner at one of my favorite restaurants, Mash’d. It was an entire week before my actual birthday, so I was pretty taken aback. He reserved the private room and had a dozen of our friends there to partake in moonshine sprits and the best burger north of Sam Raburn. After dinner, we ended up going to Dave and Busters and spent hours playing arcade games, arriving back home before midnight (the perfect grown up birthday celebration).

Since my birthday fell on a Monday this year, it was MLK Jr day and Nate had the day off from work. He told me that I could do anything that day that I wanted. Since flying to Charleston was kind of out of the question, I settled for a day on the couch watching movies with him….which, let's be real, is pretty much just as great. That evening he ended up taking me out to dinner at Bonefish, where they have my most favorite cocktail ever, a pomegranate martini. We filled ourselves on bang bang shrimp and fish entrees and then went next door to Whole Foods and grabbed some macarons for dessert. I hate super sweet desserts, so these are pretty perfect for me….just the right serving of just a little bit of sweet.

All in all, my birthday was a pretty simple celebration with some of my most favorite people. You really can't get any better than that.
